Su-A Heo is a handmaiden who spends her days working and swimming in the sea. Her work is her whole life, until one day, when she discovers a wounded independence fighter named Ui-Hyeon Kang washed up on the shore. She nurses him back to health, only to lose her ability to speak in a botched murder attempt by Ui-Hyeon’s comrade, Hae-Su Song. As she travels to the capital, Gyeongseong (present-day Seoul), to get revenge, she finds herself growing more and more intertwined with a strange, brave new world and the people within it.\n\n(Source: WEBTOONS) \n\n*Note: Chapter count includes prologue.*","published":{"start_date":"2019-06-20","end_date":"2021-06-18","start_date_is_estimated":false,"end_date_is_estimated":false},"status":"completed","is_licensed":true,"content_rating":"safe","type":"manhwa","original_language":"ko","rating":84.24,"popularity":{"global":{"current":4329,"history":{"1d":4330,"1w":4344,"1mo":4315,"3mo":4498,"6mo":4281,"1y":6005}},"type":{"current":1258,"history":{"1d":1257,"1w":1246,"1mo":1202,"3mo":1159,"6mo":894,"1y":904}}},"last_updated_at":"2026-10-06T11:25:10.776Z","source":{"anilist":{"id":111489,"rating":8.3,"rating_normalized":83},"anime_planet":{"id":"whale-star-the-gyeongseong-mermaid","rating":4.3,"rating_normalized":86},"anime_news_network":{"id":null,"rating":null,"rating_normalized":null},"kitsu":{"id":55147,"rating":null,"rating_normalized":null},"manga_updates":{"id":"qg0t0z6","rating":8.43,"rating_normalized":84},"my_anime_list":{"id":131338,"rating":8.45,"rating_normalized":85},"shikimori":{"id":131338,"rating":8.34,"rating_normalized":83}},"publishers":[{"id":21,"name":"Ize Press","canonical_url":"https://mangabaka.org/publisher/21/Ize-Press","language":"en","note":null},{"id":4874,"name":"LINE Webtoon","canonical_url":"https://mangabaka.org/publisher/4874/LINE-Webtoon","language":"en","note":null},{"id":2246,"name":"NAVER WEBTOON","canonical_url":"https://mangabaka.org/publisher/2246/NAVER-WEBTOON","language":"ko","note":null},{"id":4456,"name":"RH Korea","canonical_url":"https://mangabaka.org/publisher/4456/RH-Korea","language":"ko","note":null}],"rating_count":2140,"final_volume":6,"total_chapters":109,"titles":[{"language":"ko","traits":["native"],"title":"고래별","is_primary":true},{"language":"en","traits":["official"],"title":"Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid","is_primary":true},{"language":"ko-Latn","traits":["native"],"title":"Gorae Byul","is_primary":true},{"language":"uk","traits":[],"title":"Китова зірка.
