Each cartoonist was sent for two weeks to a different city in the archipelago (Joann Sfar in Tôkyô, Emmanuel Guibert in Kyôto, Nicolas de Crécy in Nagoya, etc.) to bring back an original creation.  \nThe Japanese tell us about their district, the city where they live or where they originally come from (Kazuichi Hanawa's story being about the northern island of Hokkaido, Jiro Taniguchi's about the town of Tottori, etc.)  \nThe result is often inspired, always surprising: Japan through new eyes.  \n\"Japan\" will appear simultaneously in French, Japanese, Spanish, Italian and English. Along with \"A Patch Of Dreams\" by Hideji Oda, it is the first step in a series of international creations with left-to-right reading direction, created for us by some of the best European and Japanese comic book artists.\n\nList of included short stories:\n\nAt the Seaside - [TAKAHAMA Kan](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=4331)  \nThe Gateway - David Prudhomme  \nSummer Sky - [TANIGUCHI Jiro](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=714)  \nNow I Can Die! - Aurélia Aurita  \nOsaka 2034 - François Schuiten & Benoît Peeters  \nShin.Ichi. - Emmanual Guibert  \nThe New Gods - Nicolas de Crécy  \n*Kankichi* - [MATSUMOTO Taiyou](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=361)  \nThe Tokyo of Qualtérou - Joann Sfar  \nThe Sunflower - [Little Fish](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=19995)  \nThe Song of the Crickets - [ANNO Moyoco](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=152)  \nIn Love Alley - [Frédéric Boilet](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=6069)  \nThe City of Trees - Fabrice Neaud  \nThe Festival of the Bell-Horses - [IGARASHI Daisuke](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2216)  \nIn the Deep Forest - [HANAWA Kazuichi](https://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=2080)  \nSapporo Fiction - Étienne Davodeau","published":{"start_date":"2005-12-20","end_date":"2005-12-20","start_date_is_estimated":false,"end_date_is_estimated":false},"status":"completed","is_licensed":true,"content_rating":"safe","type":"manga","original_language":"ja","rating":69.22354,"popularity":{"global":{"current":26738,"history":{"1d":26719,"1w":26755,"1mo":26498,"3mo":28476,"6mo":29762,"1y":21346}},"type":{"current":18066,"history":{"1d":18054,"1w":18114,"1mo":18062,"3mo":19837,"6mo":22160,"1y":17039}}},"last_updated_at":"2026-10-15T10:39:59.439Z","source":{"anilist":{"id":null,"rating":null,"rating_normalized":null},"anime_planet":{"id":"japan-as-viewed-by-17-creators","rating":3.4,"rating_normalized":68},"anime_news_network":{"id":8375,"rating":8.11177,"rating_normalized":81},"kitsu":{"id":23574,"rating":null,"rating_normalized":null},"manga_updates":{"id":"30hoomq","rating":6.54,"rating_normalized":65},"my_anime_list":{"id":13027,"rating":6.57,"rating_normalized":66},"shikimori":{"id":13027,"rating":6.59,"rating_normalized":66}},"publishers":[{"id":4196,"name":"Asuka Shinsha","canonical_url":"https://mangabaka.org/publisher/4196/Asuka-Shinsha","language":"ja","note":"1 volume"},{"id":2773,"name":"Ponent Mon","canonical_url":"https://mangabaka.org/publisher/2773/Ponent-Mon","language":"en","note":"1 Volume - Complete"}],"rating_count":535,"final_volume":1,"total_chapters":17,"titles":[{"language":"en","traits":["official"],"title":"Japan as Viewed by 17 Creators","is_primary":true},{"language":"ja-Latn","traits":["native"],"title":"Japon","is_primary":true},{"language":"pl","traits":[],"title":"Japonia widziana oczyma 20 autorów","is_primary":true},{"language":"ja","traits":["native"],"title":"JAPON ～JAPAN×FRANCE MANGA COLLECTION～","is_primary":true},{"language":"zh","traits":[],"title":"JAPON：看見日本，法×日漫畫創作合集","is_primary":true},{"language":"fr","traits":[],"title":"Le Japon vu par 17 auteurs","is_primary":true},{"language":"ru","traits":[],"title":"Япония глазами семнадцати авторов","is_primary":true}],"cover":{"raw":"https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/manga/2/183123l.jpg","x150":"https://cdn.mangabaka.dev/imgproxy/plain/x150@1/aHR0cHM6Ly9jZG4ubXlhbmltZWxpc3QubmV0L2ltYWdlcy9tYW5nYS8yLzE4MzEyM2wuanBn","x250":"https://cdn.mangabaka.dev/imgproxy/plain/x250@1/aHR0cHM6Ly9jZG4ubXlhbmltZWxpc3QubmV0L2ltYWdlcy9tYW5nYS8yLzE4MzEyM2wuanBn","x350":"https://cdn.mangabaka.dev/imgproxy/plain/x350@1/aHR0cHM6Ly9jZG4ubXlhbmltZWxpc3QubmV0L2ltYWdlcy9tYW5nYS8yLzE4MzEyM2wuanBn","blurhash":"|yKcbRWAoeW;s:jtofoeof_Nn$oLW=ofjtX8j[kCx]ofa{bIoej[bboLkCMxt7j@bIoLfkflj@j[Mdofoffkj[j[W;fPa|M{WBf+Wqj[j[j[jZjZt7e.kCfja|j[j[ayayx]W;j[oLjZbHa{ayaxxuofWVjsayj[jZWVax","width":320,"height":450},"anime":{"exists":false,"start":null,"end":null}}}
